Sydney, Nova Scotia is similar to many other towns so we decided to rent the last
car in the rental lot and drive down to the Fortress of Louisbourg.
Louisbourg was the French answer to Halifax. This huge complex hosted not only the
military operations protecting Quebec from the English to their south, but also
was home to many people. The fortress is a small town within its walls, surrounded
by water on two sides, a swamp on another, and only a narrow stretch of solid land
to enter the fortress on its last side.
