Croatia's Personality
Croatia is like the brother who received the best inheritance
from his parents after their death, but his brothers are not happy about it.
Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina,
Montenegro, Kosovo, and
others were all fighting after Yugoslavia collapsed and, after Croatia initially
got involved in these Balkan Wars in the 1990s, quickly realized that there was
no need to get involved in this family squabbling when he already had the best inheritance.
Croatia's coastline along the Adriatic Sea is among
the best in Europe and the marble-paved cities along this
sea are just as impressive. Compared to Serbia's landlocked
state and bitterness toward the collapse of Yugoslavia, Croatia faired quite well
due to the former country's collapse. To make the most of this inheritance,
the Croatians turned to Germany and
Western Europe to help develop their coast and create one of Europe's
fastest growing tourism industries.
Identity
Today, the Croatians view themselves as Croatian and
that is defined, almost exclusively, by being Catholic. They tend to look more towards
western Europe than they do their Slavic neighbors and
continue to progress in that direction.
