Culture & Identity
Slovenia's Personality
Slovenia got stuck with a bunch of in-fighting brothers
as she ignored them and continued on her own path. Once Yugoslavia collapsed, Croatia, Serbia, and
Bosnia among others, fought and warred, while Slovenia did her best
to get out of the fighting and focus on her personal interests, which seem to have
included economic progress, tourism, peace, and stability.
From the end of World War I, Slovenia has advanced quicker
than the rest of the Yugoslav states and, although not as well known for tourism
as Croatia, Slovenia has diversified her economy and
the people's high education levels have allowed tourism and business to enter
the country without any problems.
Identity
The Slovenes primarily identify as Slovenian, which
is an ethnicity that has been slightly different from Serbian,
Bosniak, or Croatian
for centuries. Most Slovenes are Catholic, but this is by no means the most substantially
defining factor in the identity. Having been an independent state in the past and
having been closely tied to both Italy and
Hungary, Slovenia views the other Yugoslav states as brothers and allies,
but continues to put her people first and do what's best for them.
