However the famed Pamir Highway boasts one of the world's most beautiful journeys. In these mountains the people are surprised to see foreigners and hesitantly welcome you into their homes.

With a great past in the Silk Road, the Tajiks today are modest mountain dwellers who continue to live off the land with their animals. Survival seems to be the underlying base of the culture as modesty is a way of life and gorgeous mountain scape is so engrained into the daily lives they are almost unnoticed by the locals.
