Szczecin

February 16, 2005

We arrived in Szczecin, but missed our connection to Poznań so found ourselves a hostel. We went to bed early and the next morning headed into town. The city has been a source of conflict between the Poles and Germans for a number of years... personally, I'm not sure what's worth fighting for.

We started the morning by seeing the Gate of Prussian Homage or the Royal Gate then headed down to ul Wały Chrobrego which is home to the Maritime Museum, the university and other buildings. The Castle of the Dukes of Pomerania was nice from the outside, but we didn’t go in. Finally, we visited the old town square, which was more German than Polish and finally meandered our way to the train station and bought tickets to Poznań.
