Architecture of San Marino

Sammarinese Architecture - San Marino from above
San Marino from above

Architectural monuments in San Marino date back to the city and country's founding in the 1200s. Most of the structures from this time are limited to walls, gates, and other military defensives that are integrated with the natural landscape. Amongst these military strongholds are the three towers: the Guaita Tower (1000s), the Cesta Tower (1200s), and the Montale Tower (1300s).

In the 1800s much of San Marino City was built in the neo-Classical style. The most notable of these structures are the Palazzo Pubblico (1884-1894) and the Basilica of San Marino (1836).
