Milwaukee
Lake Michigan
Many people from Milwaukee will talk about it as the world's greatest city,
however many of them have never been to another city and if they have many of them
don't like the other city before they even arrive.
Milwaukee is not my type of place and to me is sterile. There's a significant
drinking culture, which is no surprise given the fact that Miller is based here
along with a few micro breweries. I know so many people who arrived in this city
for a job or internship and will never leave. I however arrived for a job and nearly
as soon as I had unpacked did I want to leave. There's entertainment, but not
to the levels of a big city, good museums, but no fantastic collections, parks,
but none big enough to feel like you've escaped the city, the city's big
enough to prevent getting out of yet not large, or perhaps concentrated enough to
feel like you're in a major city.
Of course the other side of the coin says it's got everything a big city has
with museums, entertainment, night life, yet isn't overwhelming and has
parks everywhere and has enough neighborhoods that make each area feel small and
more like a community.
The city is whatever perspective you decide to see it from, but I want to have access
to nature, not just an over-populated coastline and want to feel like I'm at
home and Milwaukee doesn't provide either of those.
The greatest day I've had in Milwaukee was when my brother Brent and I attend
a Milwaukee Bucks game. First we got the second closest parking spot to the exit,
close enough we didn't have to have problems maneuvering to get out, just pull
straight out. Next I caught a free Bucks T-shirt, then the guy next to us won free
pizza so we got on the jumbotron. After we were off the TV, he turned to us and
said he just ate so gave us the pizza. And to top all of that the Bucks won by about
30 points and scored over 130. Since then, I've been afraid to go to a Bucks
game, I think I may just be disappointed.
